THIS IS NOT RIGHT!
Multil-Level marketing is a little bit like David and Goliath...the little guy winning against seemingly unsurmountable odds. It's what I love about the profession. No entitlement, no tenure or anything else required to be successful. It lets guys like me compete equally with people much smarter, much better looking and more degreed. And win! So these two friends of mine climbed the mountain. Fought their way up. Only to have a company owner decide to rewrite the rules, change the compensation plan and kick them in the face. I copied you on the complaint if you want to read it. And read it you should! Because you want to be with a company that doesn't do that to people! End of story. It takes a long time, a lot of heartbreak, tons of highs and lows, and a myriad of other things to put together a business like Minh and Julie put together. Only to have it taken away. I am sure there are two sides to this story. Like any story. But taking away someones life? Their dream? NO WAY! I was on the board of the www.MLMIA.com to try to be a voice to stop this stuff from happening. I then helped found the Distributor Rights Association with Rod Cook to do the same thing. And we did a little. Not a lot. And now that association has gone another direction. Very sad. And the DSA? They protect the companies (Goliath), not us (David), so they are very little help. There are two solutions...first one is on YOU. Join a company who doesn't do that to people. Do your due diligence. Call ME. I will help you figure it out. One of the best policy and procedure readers out there is Cheryl Kissell. You might not like it but she will tell you the truth. (She's going to shoot me for hyperlinking her.) And the second one is that we all need another association. It's a daunting undertaking and I don't believe any of the current ones out there or in formulation are even close. So when the time comes to step up and join the cause I will tell you. But for now...it's all smoke and mirrors. I joined a great company. And I put my head on my pillow every night knowing they have my back. I didn't build my business to have it taken away. You shouldn't either. Before I go...know YOU HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS TOO. It's called keeping your company in business! Follow the rules. Be a great ambassador for the profession. Don't be one of the bad guys. If you read this whole post I am proud of you. ![]() Today I was thinking about Dr. Joel Wallach saying we could live over 120 years. And I thought "what if I was was twice my age?" That would have me a robust 126 1/2 years old. Wow. So then I just took my age 63 years BACKWARD from my birth year of 1951. That would have meant that I was born on July 1st of 1888. Stay with me. You should try it. Think of what went down in the 63 years before my birth. The breakthroughs in medicine. The Wright Brothers. The computer. And on and on. All the way up to July 1, 1951. Nothing remarkable happened on my birthday in ’88 but some interesting stuff went down that year. Like Benjamin Harrison was elected the 23rd President of the United States. Thomas Edison filed a patent for the optical phonograph (the first movie). The artist Vincent Van Gogh cut off his ear and sent it to a prostitute for safe keeping. I’ll bet she was thrilled to get that! Oh…and George Eastman started a little company called Eastman Kodak. A couple of cutting edge inventions came on the scene too. The ball point pen and the drinking straw! I have witnessed great things in the 63 years since my birth in 1951 but now try to imagine what’s going to occur between now and 2077 when I hit 126! If that isn’t enough to make you want to hang around I don’t know what would. Just think about the generations of family I will have. How about the inventions and the progress I will witness. I will never forget my mom telling me how afraid she and my dad were about bringing us into this unstable world. I felt the same way when Adrian and Courtney made their way on to the planet. I don’t feel this way at this very young age of 63. I know there will be wars. Famine. Natural disasters. There always are. But we always get through them. As Americans and as humans. We persevere and we adapt. I choose to believe wonderful thing are going to happen. That this planet is going to embrace peace, harmony and health. And we as the human race will get more focused on keeping us all alive and getting along. I’m excited about the future. As long as I get to be a part of it. And I know I am here for a reason and I am not supposed to give up or slow down. That’s why I am walking at least 10,000 steps every day. That’s why I take the 90 for Life like my existence depends on it. That’s why I am working so hard to create an income stream that is going to support me through all of this hopefully very long adventure. Because I truly believe it’s going to happen. Tom |
